Iskhakov Named an AHL All-Star for the Second Time

Jan 10, 2024

The Bridgeport Islanders, American Hockey League affiliate of the New York Islanders, announced today that forward Ruslan Iskhakov has been selected to the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Tech CU in San Jose, California on Feb. 4-5. It is his second consecutive All-Star selection.

Entering Wednesday night's game, Iskhakov leads the Islanders in goals (12), assists (16) and points (28) in 32 games this season. He also paces the team in shots (79), multi-point games (9), power-play points (8), and game-winning goals (4). All four game-winners have come in overtime, which shares the league lead and is tied for the AHL single-season record for overtime goals.

The Moscow native, who scored two goals in the 2023 AHL All-Star Challenge in Laval last February, is currently on a career-long eight-game point streak with five goals and six assists over that span. It’s tied for the longest active scoring streak in the AHL.

He scored two goals in Sunday’s 3-2 overtime victory against the Charlotte Checkers and was named the AHL’s Second Star of the Night.

Iskhakov, 23, ranked third among all AHL rookies with 51 points (17g, 34a) in 69 games last season. His 34 assists ranked third on the club and were second among all AHL rookies.

The 5-foot-8, 170-pound forward was selected by the New York Islanders in the second round, 43rd overall, of the 2018 NHL Draft.

The AHL’s All-Stars will be divided into four teams, one representing each of the league’s four divisions, for the 2024 AHL All-Star Challenge on Monday, Feb. 5th. The teams will participate in a round-robin 3-on-3 tournament featuring six games of 10 minutes each. The two teams with the best records at the end of the round-robin will face off for the championship, a six-minute game also played at 3-on-3.

The AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday, Feb. 4th, will pit the All-Stars from the two Eastern Conference divisions against those from the two Western Conference divisions in seven skills events.

Tickets for the 2024 AHL All-Star festivities are on sale now.
