The Bridgeport Islanders continued their commitment to growing youth hockey in Connecticut this past week with a visit to the SoNo Ice House in Norwalk.
On Monday, forward Matt Maggio and defensemen Aidan Fulp and Marshall Warren participated in practice with the Mid Fairfield Youth Hockey Association.
The three skated with youth players and gave advice on how they can become better players. It also provided the opportunity for the kids to ask questions about hockey and what it takes to be a pro.
“It’s great anytime you can get out in the community and just give back,” Maggio said. “Even just doing small stuff like this. This is why you play the game. It’s the most rewarding thing for us to give back and see the smiles on kids' faces. We were these kids not too long ago.”
Although it seems like a small gesture, events like these go a long way in fostering a love for the sport of hockey. It might be the moment that leads these kids to one day taking the ice at Total Mortgage Arena, or beyond.
