Recap: Islanders 5, Marlies 4
Mar 30, 2025The Bridgeport Islanders (15-43-4-3), American Hockey League affiliate of the New York Islanders, battled back from deficits of 3-0 and 4-1 to stun the Toronto Marlies (33-22-3-6) in a dramatic 5-4 win at Coca-Cola Coliseum on Sunday.
Liam Foudy scored twice and added one helper, while Chris Terry assisted on three consecutive goals in the second period. Adam Beckman and Cam Thiesing also had multi-point afternoons with one goal and one assist. Hunter Miska (2-6-0) made 32 saves.
With three assists, Terry closed to within one helper and two points behind Jeremy Colliton’s all-time franchise records.
The Islanders fell behind early in their final game against a North Division opponent this season, allowing two goals 2:33 apart from Robert Mastrosimone and Luke Haymes in the first. Logan Show added his eighth goal of the season during a four-on-four sequence 37 seconds into the middle frame to put the Marlies ahead 3-0.
But Foudy had a quick answer to spart a furious comeback effort. Fourteen seconds after the Islanders went down by three, Toronto turned the puck over in its end, allowing Thiesing to center a pass for Foudy from the bottom of the right circle. Foudy drove the net, demanded the puck, and forced home his 19th goal of the season at the 51-second mark.
Joe Blandisi put the Marlies ahead 4-1 just 43 seconds later, but it was all Islanders after that. Bridgeport rattled off four unanswered tallies, four total in the second period, to finish March on a high note.
Brian Pinho scored his team-leading 23rd goal of the season at the 11:30 mark, assisted by Terry and Beckman, before Foudy shot out of a cannon and tucked a backhand shot around Marlies goaltender Artur Akhtyamov (10-8-4). Terry poked the puck ahead to Foudy in the Islanders’ zone and Foudy used his speed to fly past Toronto’s defense for a breakaway tally at 14:21.
The Islanders tied the game on a power-play goal from Beckman at 17:52 of the second period, his 17th goal of the season and fourth in 10 games with Bridgeport. After Alex Steeves was called for tripping, Terry served a pass to the right circle where Beckman hammered home a one-time slap shot to make it 4-4.
Thiesing scored the winner 1:19 into the third, converting near the crease following Foudy’s no-look, backhand pass from the low slot. It was Thiesing sixth goal of the season and second career game winner.
The Islanders went 1-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. Bridgeport finished its two-game series against the Marlies with points in both contests (1-0-1-0).
