Sound Tigers Come Up Empty in 3-0 Loss
Nov 16, 2019The Bridgeport Islanders (4-10-3-1), American Hockey League affiliate of the New York Islanders, suffered a 3-0 loss to the Laval Rocket (10-6-2-0) at Place Bell on Saturday night.
Jared Coreau (0-6-1) was miraculous for Bridgeport with 29 saves on 30 shots, but he was outdueled by rookie Cayden Primeau, who recorded his first professional shutout with 20 saves for the Rocket. Only one of Laval’s goals was scored at even strength, which didn’t come until the 13-minute mark of the third period, while the other two tallies came on an empty net.
BOX SCORE
The Sound Tigers were outshot 19-17 through the first two periods, but Coreau and Primeau duked it out in a spectacular showcase of top-notch goaltending. Primeau and the Rocket faced six Sound Tigers’ power plays in the first 40 minutes, while Coreau and Bridgeport killed off four, including two full minutes of five-on-three time in the second frame. Michael McCarron finally broke the deadlock at 13:00 of the third period when he scored his second goal of the season on a rebound. Riley Barber hammered a shot on target from the left wing, that bounced off Coreau’s pads and to an open McCarron at the back door.
Unable to respond, and getting outshot 13-3 in the third period, the Sound Tigers allowed empty-netters to Jake Evans and Lukas Vejdemo in the final 90 seconds.
Bridgeport finished the game 0-for-7 on the power play, but 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. It was the Sound Tigers’ second straight setback in Canada after and overtime loss in Belleville, Ontario on Friday.
