Kuhnhackl, 29, agreed to terms on a one-year, AHL deal with the Sound Tigers in January after playing each of the past two seasons with the New York Islanders. In addition to his time on Long Island, Kuhnhackl first broke into the NHL and played several seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He has 54 points (18 goals, 36 assists) in 232 regular-season NHL games and another 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in 58 Stanley Cup Playoff contests. He won back-to-back Stanley Cups with Pittsburgh in 2016 and 2017 - one of just three German players to capture the NHL's ultimate prize.
A native of Landshut, Germany, Kuhnhackl also has 65 points (31 goals, 34 assists) in 165 regular-season AHL games with the Sound Tigers and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He was selected by the Penguins in the fourth round (#110 overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft.
